Winmate Tex Named as Elo TouchSystems Master Distributor in Asia

Elo TouchSystems, the world leader in touch technology and a wholly owned subsidiary of Raychem Corporation, has signed a master distribution agreement with Taiwan-based Winmate Tex, Inc. Under the new agreement, Winmate Tex will develop sales channels in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao.
“Our distributorship agreement with Winmate is a part of Elo’s ongoing expansion into worldwide markets,” said Don Armstrong, director of strategic business development for Elo. “Computer use is in its infancy in China. Through touch, we plan to make the benefits of computer use more readily available in a country containing one quarter of the world’s population. Through Winmate, we will deliver both highly reliable touch products and levels of service and support that have been previously unavailable in China.”
Winmate and its Beijing-based distributor, Taikoo Touch Systems, will feature Elo IntelliTouch® and AccuTouch® touchscreens at Comdex China ’97 in Beijing. Taikoo will sponsor Elo Information Touch Kiosks throughout the Beijing Comdex exhibition area. These kiosks will help international attendees locate exhibitors while demonstrating the benefits of the touch interface for public use computers.
“Touchscreen systems previously available in China have been unreliable, often leaving users frustrated and giving the technology a bad image,” said Macros Chen, general manager of Winmate Tex. “Elo’s highly reliable products combined with Winmate’s support and service will alleviate the problems previously faced by touchscreen users and will correct the touch industry’s image.”
Both Chen and Armstrong see the new alliance as a major force for winning market share in China, which has one of the fastest-growing economies in the world.
“With Winmate’s expertise, we will move Elo products quickly throughout the area and become an active participant in that growth,” said Armstrong.
